risk and common misdiagnoses.
Sally M. Pacholok, RN has been researching B12 deficiency and practicing emergency nursing for 30 years. She diagnosed herself with B12 deficiency after doctors failed to identify her condition at the age of 22. Sally is an international speaker and co-author of Could It Be B12? An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses. She has been a guest on numerous radio, print, and syndicated talk shows. Could It Be B12? won the Indie Excellence Award for best health book in 2011. It has been translated into Dutch, Slovak, Bulgarian, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. In 2012, a documentary was made based on their book.
In 2015, a feature film titled Sally Pacholok was created by E.L. Productions, based on the true story of Sally’s lifelong battle to improve our health care system, create a standard of care change, and expose poor practice. The tag-line for the film is “This nurse could save your life.” Sally Pacholok won best feature film at the 2015 D.C. International Film Festival. Cast and crew took home 10 awards at the 2015 TIVA Awards. Sally is the co-author of the new book, Could It Be B12?-Pediatric Edition. What Every Parent Needs to Know About Vitamin B12 Deficiency. Sally is a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) provider, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider and an active member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). She received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
and the NEW Pediactric Edition - What Every Parent Needs to Know About Vitamin B12 Deficiency.
Dr. Jeffrey Stuart is a board-certified emergency medicine physician who has been in practice for 20 years. He is certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Paediatric Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation.
Jeff joined Sally to promote public awareness of B12 deficiency after Sally correctly diagnosed his mother’s B12 deficiency which had been misdiagnosed by two board-certified neurologists.
He has been testing symptomatic patients for B12 deficiency in the emergency department since 1996. As a result he has diagnosed hundreds of patients with B12 deficiency. Jeff notes that such regular testing for B12 deficiency is not the current standard of care in the United States, and that potentially hundreds of thousands of cases of B12 deficiency are missed every year.
Meet your host and organiser
Tracey was diagnosed with B12 deficiency in 2012. A year later she and she created this website to help patients like her, to find accurate information and practical help easily.
It is important to her that the wealth of information within the site is provided for FREE and that it does not require membership.
Raising awareness of B12 deficiency, bringing people together, educating and advocating for patients is Tracey's passion. She is so pleased to be able to work with leading B12 expert Sally Pacholok R.N. in this mission.
Driven to campaign for correct diagnosis and better treatment for patients, Tracey's regular blog about the patient experience is shared widely, this and www.b12deficiency.info are valuable resources for both health professionals and patients. She hopes that her work petitioning for B12 injections to be made available from pharmacies and uncovering the truth about the UK’s restricted treatment regimes will make a profound difference to those with B12 deficiency.
Along with her husband Damian they have funded all the work on the site and also subsidised two previous successful conferences. Their hope is that one day their social enterprise will be self supporting.
Feedback from our previous conferences.
"I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Sitting amongst B12 educated people was so helpful and very refreshing. Hearing patients stories was just fantastic".
"As a health professional it was great to get to talk to the public about all their experiences rather than just other health practitioners."
"I attendended as a therapist and a thyroid patient with a little knowledge of B12 deficiency. I was completely astounded by the wealth of information I learned on this subject and will be making sure that I attend any future events. This will change my practice!"
"The event was very well organised and I felt very welcome which is extremely important in the world today. Many conferences seem so unfriendly and the speakers completely unapproachable, this event was the opposite!"
"I don't think I have ever been at a conference that so many people stayed until the end, especially on a Saturday! That is testament to the line-up you organised. Well done. I hope it makes a difference.“
"Thank you Tracey. The conference was fantastic, you did a really good job of organising things."
"Congratulations on organising a really interesting day. The speakers were excellent and inspiring and gave us plenty to think about!"
